Beatitudes: The Way of Blessedness
It has been called the greatest sermon ever preached. Yet, it takes only about ten minutes to read. What is contained in Matthew 5-7 is really a compacted version of the theology of Jesus Christ. Just about every verse can be taken apart and examined … and yet the depths of their meaning and application can never be fully exhausted. At the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount are eight statements that would have shocked the audience who gathered on the side of the hill that day. How the people defined what it meant to become righteous was far different from the Lord’s. The Beatitudes are, as Donald Hagner called them, the foundation of righteous living.
In The Beatitudes, Matthew Allen looks at each in the gospel of Matthew, as well as some of the other beatitudes found in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Designed for a church bible class, this study is also suitable for a small group or individual study. (note: there are 13 lessons but no questions with the lessons)
