This is Sewell's story, unique in some ways, but also reflecting the stories of others.
Sewell Hall wasn't a major figure of a historical movement whose name will be remembered for centuries as a spiritual mover and shaker. He and his contemporaries worked with congregations in relative obscurity, trying to influence others to imitate Jesus Christ, even as they struggled with their own imperfections. They will soon be forgotten in this world, but their experiences are invaluable tools for our learning.
What were the most significant challenges encountered by primitivist disciples over the past 75 years, a period regarded by some as the inception of the post-Christian era? This biography of Sewell Hall examines the obstacles he and his contemporaries faced in their efforts to share the message of Jesus Christ, including the balance between grace and the necessity of obedience, as well as the struggles against racial injustice, pride, worldliness, postmodernism, and other threats to a life of holiness. Brother Hall worked among congregational churches of Christ, primarily in the Southeastern United States, New York, New Jersey, Nigeria, and England.
In his later years, when reflecting on both his work and his weaknesses, he increasingly spoke of the grace of God as his only hope of salvation and the only source of any good he may have accomplished.
