The Doctrine of Christ and Unity of the Saints
This book is presented in the perspective of 1, 2, and 3 John, with 2 John 9 receiving special attention as a watershed. To say that 2 John 9 has often occasioned controversy is accurate, so far as it goes. Actually, the controversy over 2 John 9 is an indicator of deeper issues. Radically different approaches to the doctrine of Christ and unity of the saints are nearly always indicated by divergent explanations of 2 John 9.
This book examines the passage in detail, but looks as well at the rich context in which it is found. This is not a mere academic exercise. The passage and its context are examined with a constant view to the doctrine of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and therefore to the blessed unity of the saints in him.
